Responsibilities:

Architect scalable database solutions for enterprise healthcare applications
Design and implement database schemas for complex healthcare workflows
Lead performance optimization initiatives achieving millisecond query response times
Establish database security strategies ensuring HIPAA compliance and PHI protection
Mentor junior database engineers and establish best practices across teams
Design and implement high-availability and disaster recovery solutions
Develop complex ETL processes for integrating multiple healthcare data sources
Optimize databases handling millions of claims, clinical notes, and financial transactions
Lead database technology evaluation and migration initiatives
Collaborate with development teams to design efficient data access patterns
Troubleshoot and resolve critical production database issues with minimal downtime
Implement comprehensive monitoring and alerting for database health

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (Master’s preferred)
7+ years of database engineering experience in production environments
Expert-level proficiency in database design, optimization, and administration
Strong experience with multiple database platforms (relational and/or NoSQL)
Proven experience with high-volume, high-availability systems
Deep understanding of query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance tuning
Experience with database security, encryption, and compliance requirements
Strong knowledge of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and mentor team members
Experience with database replication, clustering, and sharding
Excellent problem-solving skills for complex data challenges

Will be a plus:

Deep expertise in SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar enterprise databases
Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis)
Healthcare industry experience, particularly with EHR systems and HIPAA compliance
Knowledge of healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR) and billing systems
Experience with cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL)
Expertise in data warehousing, OLAP, and business intelligence systems
Experience with multi-tenant SaaS database architectures
Knowledge of real-time data streaming (Kafka, Kinesis)
Experience with database automation and Infrastructure as Code
Certifications in database technologies (Microsoft, Oracle, AWS)
Experience managing offshore database teams, particularly in India
Knowledge of big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop)
